Blessing #8: I am Generous
What does being generous mean to you? What does it look like in your life?
Here’s the dictionary definitions & synonyms:
- showing a readiness to give more of something than is strictly necessary or expected
- magnanimous, unselfish, lavish
- showing kindness toward others
- noble, charitable, big-hearted
- larger or more plentiful than is usual or necessary
- ample, plentiful, abundant
I think it’s fair to say that you don’t have to be rich to be generous. Generosity doesn’t start in your wallet or your bank account; it starts in your heart. I’ve known rich people who are generous, and rich people who are tight-fisted; likewise, I’ve known poor people who would literally give you their last cup of tea, and poor people who clutch the dirt around them and defy you to stand on it.
Think of some of the people you have known who just love to give, give, give- not seeking anything in return, just joyfully giving- and recall what it feels like to have someone extend true generosity to you. Maybe it came in the form of money, or an unexpected present, or being treated to a special event. It feels AMAZING to have someone just pour goodness out on you and make you feel like you are extra-special. While it comes more naturally and easily to some people, anyone can be generous. And the best part is, the Universe loves to reward a generous heart! Once you start to develop your “generosity gene” you begin to seek out and attract people who are also generous. It does make the world a little kinder, a little nicer, a little brighter when we freely, lavishly give out of a place of generosity.
Maybe you have loads of money, and maybe times are tight for you. Either way, there are so many ways to life a more generous life.
Look at your life and take stock of yourself- your time, your talents, your resources. Let your inner light shine on one area where you can release your grip and open your hand to release kindness, love, and praise.
