Friends, emotional eating (from feeling fearful, sad, angry, or whatever overwhelming thing we are feeling) is something that can be managed and overcome when we learn how to access the tools we need. It definitely takes practice and lots of support to “retrain our brain” but it is TOTALLY doable! I’ve been actively at work on my own emotional issues and how I can respond to stress differently than I did for so many years. It’s a powerful process, not always easy- but the healing that has taken place and the strategies I’ve gained are worth the effort. I’ve learned…

I was just updating my About section over on my personal FB page and noticed a new (?) feature called Intro. I actually have no idea how long that has been there. A week? 3 months? 20 minutes? But I digress… Anyway, I was suddenly struck by the way I was labeling myself and realized, Aha! I really do get to say whatever I want to about myself! YES! I define myself to the world, not the other way around. Here’s some of the (awesome!) labels I’ve chosen for myself: Just a little ray of sunshine! Occasional showers with a…

I Am Positive! I love to fill my heart and mind with positive thoughts, images of hope, and inspiring stories of courage & strength. Taking in little pops of positivity throughout my day fuels me, helps me to stay my course and enjoy my journey. I find that with a positive frame of mind, I am more engaged with the world around me and I am better able to notice and respond to seen & felt needs in a way that ripples out blessing and love. Some days, however, I run into some reeeeallllly nasty roadblocks, and like Superman touching…

Blessing #31: I Am Complete In launching The Blessings Butterfly, I initially set out to write a simple book of affirmations, meditations, blessings and encouragements that would express to the people I love the most just how much they mean to me. I chose words and thoughts and themes that would empower the handful of people I had hoped would read it. Beautifully, in the process, I came to discover a new sense of love and acceptance and joy and freedom within myself. The blessings became circular, as they poured out of my heart and flowed over me and came…

Blessing #17: I am Powerful “With great power comes great responsibility.” ~Anonymous There have been many variations of the sobering phrase, with great power comes great responsibility, that have been spoken by leaders since the days of Jesus of Nazareth to Sir Winston Churchill to Spiderman’s uncle Ben Parker. Truly, the power that we each hold within us is great. Our thoughts, words, and actions have the power to create or destroy, to heal or harm, to bless or curse, to encourage or oppress, to strengthen or sabotage, to save or abandon, to love or to hate. We have the…

Blessing #16: I am Wise “He who knows all the answers has not been asked all the questions.” ~Confucius What is Wisdom? It is in knowing that I don’t know everything. It is in being open to and embracing change, instead of resisting it. It is in listening, not just hearing. It is in understanding, not just learning. It is in making mistakes and learning from them, not repeating them and expecting a different outcome. “We don’t receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.” ~Marcel Proust…

Blessing #12: I am Truly Beautiful Dorothy Parker famously said, “Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone.” (Quite) a few years prior, Plato mused that “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.” Is there a woman or a girl on this or any other planet who hasn’t at some point wrestled with the idea that she is, in fact, beautiful? In every age and in every culture, there are evolving and somewhat fickle standards of beauty that women have either tried to achieve or have struggled against. And don’t think that men haven’t been…

Blessing #7: I am Patient Oh, man- not gonna lie, for me this was/is one of the hardest and requires the most work. Growing up, I always seemed to have one of those “hot” tempers. I half-jokingly blamed it on my heritage and passionate blood coursing through my veins. That may or may not have some truth to it, but I don’t have a shred of scientific evidence to back it up. I do have memories of the feisty, fiery-tempered mom who raised me, though. She was a petite, beautiful ball of energy and as much a fighter for what…
