Michelle Lewis – The Blessings Butterfly
Do you ever find yourself wondering if you have any spirit guides? And, are they even real …if so… who are they? You’re not alone! I’ve put together some Spirit Guide Basics to help you get started.
Throughout history, many cultures have believed in the existence of spirit guides. These are non-physical beings who act as our protectors, helpers, and advisors. Spirit guides are said to be wise, powerful, and loving beings who offer guidance, support, protection and inspiration to those who seek their assistance.
What are Spirit Guides?
Spirit guides are beings from the spiritual realm who have a close connection to an individual. They are said to be assigned to us before we are born, though it is also possible that we may have different guides throughout our life on earth. Some people believe that spirit guides are our ancestors, angels, animals, or other divine beings, while others believe that they are spirits that have never had a physical body. Regardless of their origin, our spirit guides are believed to be compassionate and loving beings who want to help us on our life journey.
Types of Spirit Guides
There are many types of spirit guides, each with their own unique qualities and characteristics. Here are a few examples of different types of spirit guides:
- Angels: Angels are celestial beings who are often depicted as Messengers of God, though they do not necessarily have to represent a specific deity or religion. They are said to be pure and holy, and offer guidance, protection, and comfort to those who seek their assistance.
- Ascended Masters: Ascended Masters are spiritual beings who have achieved a high level of spiritual enlightenment. They are often associated with specific qualities, such as love, compassion, wisdom, or healing. Think of Jesus Christ, Buddha, Krishna, etc.
- Animal Guides: Animal guides are spirits that take the form of either mythical or common animals. They are said to offer guidance and wisdom to those who are drawn to a particular animal, and can also appear as a beloved pet (living or deceased).
- Spirit Animals: Spirit animals are similar to animal guides, but are said to represent a specific aspect of an individual’s personality or spiritual journey. They are most often associated with Indigenous cultures, and can offer guidance and support in areas where an individual needs to develop or grow.
- Ancestors: Ancestors are spirits of our departed loved ones who have crossed over into the spiritual realm. They can be in our direct bloodline, or distant relatives who feel particularly drawn to guiding us. Sometimes they are many generations removed.
- Elemental Spirits: Elemental spirits are associated with the four elements of nature – earth, air, fire, and water. They are said to be guardians of the natural world, and can offer guidance on matters related to the environment. Many practitioners of folk, herbal, or hedge magick prefer to work with elemental spirits.
- Star Beings: Star beings are extraterrestrial spirits who come from other planets or galaxies. They are believed to carry higher understanding than humans.
- Deities: Deities are the various gods and goddesses that are part of the mythology of both ancient and modern cultures around the world. There are literally thousands of them, each with their own folklore and attributes.
It is important to note that these are just a few examples of different types of spirit guides. There are many other types of spirit guides that an individual may encounter on their spiritual journey, and the type of guide that resonates with an individual can vary depending on their specific needs, timeline, and cultural background.
How to Connect with Your Spirit Guides
Connecting with your spirit guides can be done in many different ways. Some people prefer to meditate, while others like to communicate with their guides through dreams or receiving signs. It is important to remember that there is no right or wrong way to connect with your spirit guides, and it is a personal journey that can take lots of time and practice. What matters most is that it makes sense to you.
One way to begin to connect with your spirit guides is to simply ask for their guidance. You can do this through prayer, meditation, or simply talking to them as if they were a close friend. It is important to be open to their messages, as they may come in many different forms, such as a feeling, a sign, or a seemingly “coincidental” event.
Our guides often communicate through our intuition, so it is important that you learn to trust your instincts and wise inner voice. You may also want to keep a journal to document any messages or signs that you receive from your guides.
Benefits of Having Spirit Guides
Having spirit guides can offer many benefits, including increased feelings of peace, support, and guidance. When we connect with our spirit guides, we tap into a higher source of wisdom and guidance that can help us make better decisions.
Spirit guides can also provide comfort and reassurance during difficult times, and can help us to stay grounded and centered when we feel overwhelmed. By knowing that we have loving beings on our side, we can approach life with a sense of peace and confidence.
