Today is an historic moment in the world. It is the day that America demonstrates the peaceful transition from one executive Administration to another as we willingly hand over control from President Barak Obama to President Donald Trump.
I am not a Republican. I am not a Democrat. I am, first and foremost, a strong, white, mixed-race American woman of a certain age. I acknowledge my privileges as much as I acknowledge my obstacles.
Whatever your political views, today marks an important and dare I say life-changing opportunity. Here’s how I see it:
It is our opportunity as Americans to truly live out our ideals of Equality, Freedom, Truth, and Justice for All.
It is our opportunity to stand up for anyone who has been marginalized because of their gender, skin color, age, weight, religious beliefs, or sexual identity.
It is our opportunity to be a clear voice for love and unity. It’s why I’m marching tomorrow.
He is not who I voted for. But he is who was elected. Therefore, I will use my voice and my votes to hold him and his appointees accountable, and I will stand up to any proposed legislation that flies in the face of what truly makes America great: DIVERSITY. Because in my America, this is still the land of the free and the home of the brave- and it belongs to all of us.
